Swisher attend the Princeton Day School from 1976 to 1980. She then graduated from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service with a B.S. degree back in 1984. Swisher is a technology business journalist and the co-founder of Recode who worked at an alternative newspaper in Washington D.C. In 1986, she interned at The Washington Post alongside showrunner Ryan Murphy and was later hired full-time. In 1997, she joined The Wall Street Journal from its bureau in San Francisco. Swisher later launched the All Things Digital conference with her colleague in 2003.
The conference featured interviews with Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Larry Ellison. Together with Mossberg, Swisher struck out on their own with the Recode Website on January 1, 2014. It is based in San Francisco California. In August 2018, she became a contributing writer to The New York Times Opinion Section.
Swisher was to focus on tech and she wrote about Elon Musk, Kevin Systrom’s departure from Instagram, Google, and censorship. She has also served as a judge for Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s BigApps competition in NYC. Additionally, Swisher is considered a tough interviewer by many. In 2016, she made an official announcement concerning her ambitions to pursue the Mayor’s seat in San Francisco in 2023.
