Frere serves at KABC – ABC7 as a news reporter for ABC7 Eyewitness News. She got her first broadcast job working weekends at an Ottawa radio station while attending university. Frere then went on to report for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) on radio and TV, taking her across Canada and abroad.
Frere also worked as an investigative reporter and host for a consumer show called Buyer Beware, before moving to the United States to report for KOMO-TV in Seattle, Washington. There Frere reported from the middle of the WTO riots and provided non-stop coverage during the 6.8-magnitude earthquake, at first reporting from the tallest building in Seattle where she was stuck close to the top when the quake hit.
She has been on many adventures as a reporter, from landing by helicopter on the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, to covering presidential visits to learning close-quarters combat training. Frere has received a number of awards, including one from the Columbus Film & Video Festival for her in-depth look into the use of steroids. Frere also received special recognition for her coverage of issues involving the Canada-U.S. border from the National Border Patrol Council.
Eileen is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association. Frere has also emceed and volunteered for a number of nonprofits, including Crime Survivors, Alzheimer’s Association OC, Komen Race for the Cure, and Goodwill.
