Sallinger serves at CBS4 as a news reporter. He has reported virtually every major story in Colorado during that time including the Columbine High School shootings, the Oklahoma City bombing trials, the Kobe Bryant case, catastrophic wildfires, the murder of JonBenet Ramsey and the Aurora Theater massacre, and many more.
Sallinger’s career has included radio reporting in Chicago and Cleveland. Rick has been a television news reporter in Indianapolis (WRTV), Chicago (WMAQ), Denver (KUSA/KCNC), and London (CNN). His stories have appeared numerous times on the CBS Evening News, CBS This Morning, CBS Sunday Morning and CBS Weekend News, and The CBS Early Show. Rick’s investigative reporting has received numerous commendations, including the George Foster Peabody Award, and is considered one of broadcasting’s highest honors.
In 1990, he signed on to become a correspondent for CNN’s London bureau. The very next day, Iraq invaded Kuwait, and within the next three years, Sallinger made five trips to Iraq, and spent two and a half months, including the entire first Gulf War, five to Jordan and one to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. During his years with CNN, Sallinger reported the reunification of Germany, other major events in Moscow, the war in Yugoslavia, Paris, Geneva, Somalia, Northern Ireland, Spain, and Denmark.
When he left Denver in 1986 to pursue his career goals The Denver Post wrote that his ambition was to one day return. Sallinger has achieved that and is proud to call Colorado his home.
