Ryan Yamamoto is an American Emmy award-winning News/Sports Reporter/Anchor who is well known for having worked for KOMO-TV in Seattle, Washington. He is now working for KPIX-TV, a CBS-owned station in San Fransisco.

Yamamoto serves at KPIX-TV as an Evening News Anchor. Before joining KPIX, he worked for KOMO-TV, an ABC Affiliated station in Seattle, Washington, as a news reporter. He joined KOMO in June 2016 and left in December 2021. Before going to KOMO, he spent nearly 16 years working as a Weekend News Anchor, Reporter, and Sports Anchor in Sacramento. During his time in California’s Capital Yamamoto covered a diverse range of topics from the Ted Kaczynski “Unabomber” trial, the election of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, California wildfires, the Super Bowl in New Orleans, NBA Championships three World Series, and three World Series.

Ryan Yamamoto Career

Yamamoto’s journalism career started in Columbia, Missouri after graduating from San Francisco State in 1994. Yamamoto went on to Pocatello, Idaho as a Weekend News Anchor, before landing in Sacramento in 1998. He began his sports career in San Diego in 2005 and continued as a Sports Anchor in Sacramento, before returning to the news in 2015. In June 2016, he became a first-time filmmaker by directing and producing a documentary on American Olympic weightlifter Tommy Kono. The film aired nationally on local PBS stations.

He is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. Yamamoto grew up a Raiders, Oakland A’s, and Golden State Warriors fan. He now calls Seattle his home, together with his wife and golden retriever “Chuey”. When he is not working, you can find Yamamoto exploring the Pacific Northwest sampling seafood, and training in Muay Thai kickboxing and craft beer.

Yamamoto resigned from KOMO in December of 2021, for KPIX 5 (CBS Affiliate) in San Francisco. He joined the KPIX News team in January 2022. He announced his switch on 5th December 2021 on his official Facebook page.
