Amatus Sami-Karim is an American actress, composer, and musician. Her fame grew after marrying the award winning actor Mahershala Ali. Karim has appeared in Girl’s Time (2016) and Jasmine (2017).
She was a 2018 DRAMA DESK AWARD nominee and she completed the sound-design/music for The Home Coming Queen.

Sami was born in an Islamic family on the Southside of Chicago her father being a jazz musician as well as an Imam. She grew up at the mosque which was across the street from the Cabrini Green Projects, a public housing project. Amatus was interested in different forms of arts since she was a child, and later studied at the Tisch School of Arts in New York.
Sami was accepted into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England, following which she then had to stay in London for a year to study acting.
Her parents divorced and her later formative years were spent in Philly with her mom who is a social-worker.
