Robert Downey Jr. born Robert John Downey Jr. is an American actor and singer from Manhattan, New York. He has appeared in several films that have been successful both critically and commercially. He was on the Forbes list of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors for three consecutive years (2012-2015), making an estimated $80 million in earnings between June 2014 and June 2015.

They then got married in a Jewish ceremony at Amagansett, New York in August 2005. They have two children: a son born in February 2012 and daughter born in November 2014.
Before his marriage to Susan Levin, Downey Jr. was married to Deborah Falconer, an actress and singer. They wed after 42 days of courtship on 29th May 1992. During their marriage, Downey Jr. had an addiction problem hence repeated trips to rehab and jail. This caused a strain in his marriage till it reached the breaking point in 2001 and Falconer left him, taking their son with her. Their divorce was finalized on April 26, 2004.

Downey began acting at the age of five when he appeared in Pound (1970), his father’s film. He proceeded later and appeared in roles associated with the Brat Pack, like Weird Science (1985) and Less Than Zero (1987). In 1992, he was the title character of the 1992 film Chaplin. For his role in the film, he earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor and he won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Unfortunately, Downey began struggling with substance abuse and in 2000, he was released from the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison where he was incarcerated on drug charges. Soon after that, he joined the TV series Ally McBeal playing Calista Flockhart’s love interest. He again won an award for his role, this time, a Golden Globe Award.
He was however fired after being arrested twice for drugs in late 2000 and early 2001. He achieved sobriety after staying in a court-ordered drug treatment program.
He improved in his career when he featured in the black comedy crime Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), the mystery thriller Zodiac (2007), and the satirical action comedy Tropic Thunder (2008). In 2008, he got a role in the Marvel Comics superhero Iron Man. In several films, he appears as either the lead role, member of an ensemble cast, or in a cameo.
His most successful movies include: The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3 and Captain America: Civil War which have earned over $1 billion while Avengers: Infinity War earned over $2 billion. He has also played the title character, Sherlock Holmes in 2009. It earned him his second Golden Globe win, and its 2011 sequel. The films have earned over $500 million at the box office worldwide.

Robert Downey Jr. Prison
Downey had been arrested severally for his struggle with drug use. His first arrest was in 1996 for the possession of heroin, cocaine, and an unloaded .357 caliber Magnum revolver. He was then arrested two weeks later when he broke into a neighbor’s home in Malibu while under the influence of drugs. In 1997 and 1998, he spent some time in prison, was placed on probation and ordered to undergo drug counseling. However, a missed drug test proved to be his downfall: it landed him in the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and state prison in Corcoran in 1999.
He was then released in 2000 but three months later, he was arrested again in Palm Springs for possession of cocaine and valium. He was released on $15,000 bail the following day. He got himself into the mess again in 2001 but was able to clean up his act and achieve sobriety thereafter. He says he has been drug-free since July 2003, crediting his wife with helping him overcome the addiction, alongside his family, therapy, meditation, twelve-step recovery programs, yoga and the practice of Wing Chun kung fu.
