Rihanna Wiki

Rihanna is a Barbadian singer, businesswoman, and actress. She is regarded as a pop icon and one of the most influential contemporary recording artists and for embracing versatile musical styles and reinventing her image throughout her career.

Riri attended Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary School and Combermere High School where she studied alongside future England cricketer Chris Jordan and future West Indies cricketer Carlos Brathwaite. Riri grew up listening to reggae music and began singing at around the age of seven.

Rihanna turned to music as a teenager so as to release her from the troubles at home. She formed a girl group with two classmates and when they were 15 years old, they scored an audition with music producer Evan Rodgers who was visiting the island with his Barbadian wife. Rogers was awed by the  beautiful and talented Rihanna as he admitted, “The minute she walked into the room, it was like the other two girls didn’t exist.”

Less than a year later and at only 16 years of age Rihanna left Barbados to move in with Rogers and his wife in Connecticut and work on recording a demo album.

In the year 2005, she was taken to Def Jam Records by Rogers for an audition. She was supposed to audition for  Def Jam Records’ president, the legendary rapper Jay-Z who in his own words said, “I signed her in one day.”. “It took me two minutes to see she was a star.” The hip-hop icon was as wowed by her stunning voice as Rogers had been two years earlier and he signed her on the spot. “We made a little Godfather joke,” Jay-Z remembered. “We said the only way she could leave was through the window.”

After only 8 months, in August 2005, she released her first single ‘Pon de Replay’, a reggae-influenced club track that reached No. 2 on the Billboard singles chart and also announced her as the next up-and-coming pop star. Later in the same month, she released her album Music of the Sun which reached No. 10 on the Billboard albums chart.

Rihanna then in the next year released her second album, A Girl Like Me which featured two major hits: ‘Unfaithful’ and ‘SOS’, Rihanna’s first No. 1 single. Later in 2007, she releases the single ‘Umbrella’, which reaches the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 in June and paves way for her upcoming third album, Good girl gone Bad which was well received.

In 2009 she released her album, Rated R which featured hit songs What’s My Name, Only Girl In the World and S&M. She then released her sixth album, Talk That Talk in November 2011. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 with sales of 198,000 copies and number one in the UK, selling 163,000 copies. The lead single, “We Found Love”, topped charts in twenty-seven countries worldwide.

Rihanna then released the Grammy-winning 2012 album Unapologetic which hits as the No. 1 Sia Furler tune, Diamonds and Stay which featuring Mikky Ekko. Unapologetic turned out to be her first album to hit No. 1 on the pop charts.

Around this time Rihanna also began to do movie work, co-starring in the sci-fi flick Battleship (2012) and later lending her voice to the lead character in the animated blockbuster Home (2015). That same year (2015), she contributed vocals to the single, FourFiveSeconds which was a collaboration with West and famed Beatle Paul McCartney. She hit single B**** Better Have My Money was also released the same year.

In January 2916 Rihanna released her next album, Anti, The album was a hit having featured hit track ‘work’ which she did alongside prominent singer Drake. In 2017 she collaborated with record producer DJ Khaled on his single, ‘Wild Thoughts’, which also featured Bryson Tiller, from his tenth studio album, Grateful.

Rihanna Fenty

Fenty Beauty’s first products went on sale on September 8, 2017. The launch coincided with New York Fashion Week, where Rihanna also had a runway show for her collaboration with Puma; promotion was so extensive, The New York Times wrote, “one might be forgiven for thinking it’s actually Rihanna New York Fashion Week.”

In the US, the line launched in Sephora stores, on the Sephora website, and on Fenty Beauty’s website. In the UK, Fenty Beauty is exclusive to Harvey Nichols department stores. Fenty Beauty is available online or in store in over 15 countries. She arrived in Saudi Arabia, seen as a potentially lucrative market for the brand with cosmetic sales in the country at an all-time high.

Fenty Beauty products have drawn international praise for the range of shades offered, in particular for including darker shades among the 40 different colors for its Pro Filt’R foundation, addressing a long-criticized gap in cosmetic industry offerings for black women and other women of color.

Subsequent launches of new products or new lines have been criticized for the failure to live up to the new standard set by Fenty Beauty, for instance, Kim Kardashian West’s line KKW Beauty, Tarte’s Tape Shape Foundation, and Benefit’s Hello Happy foundation.

The line’s Stunna Lip Paint, a red lipstick launched November 23, 2017 (Thanksgiving, just ahead of Black Friday sales), also drew broad enthusiasm. Reviewing the product at BuzzFeed News, Leticia Miranda noted the history of controversy around red lipstick, particularly for women of color, saying the context made the choice of color for Stunna “assertive, confrontational, unapologetic”.

On March 23, 2018, the line launched a limited-edition highlighter called Dirty Thirty for Rihanna’s 30th birthday; it is the line’s popular Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife shade (metallic gold), packaged with XXX (the Roman numerals for 30) instead of the brand’s FB logo.

On April 6, 2018, Fenty Beauty released three products in its Beach, Please Collection. Body Lava, Fenty Beauty’s first body product, is a liquid that can be buffed into any part of the body for illumination and is available in either a peach tone called “Who Needs Clothes” or a golden one, “Brown Sugar”.

To apply the Body Lava, the Kabuki Brush is available for purchase separately. Meanwhile, the Fairy Bomb Glittering Pom Pom is both applicator and product: the pom pom is packed with rose gold glitter designed to fit all skin tones. The pom also has a vanilla-coconut scent.
