Roxanne Vargas Biography

Roxanne Vargas is an American newscaster for NBC 6 who is best known for being the host 6 in the mix, a lifestyle, and entertainment show.

She is also a great supporter of the LGBT movement and is also a published author of the popular book, 100 things to do in Miami before you die.

Vargas is married to Danny Rodriguez, a senior graphics producer at NBC 6.

Danny graduated from Westminster Christian School in Miami in 1997. In 2002, he acquired a Bachelor of Science in computer animation from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.

Danny later went on to work in the graphic design departments for NBC Universal and Telemundo up until 2018.

Danny is currently a designer for Monat Global and Rock 4 The Rack, a production artist for Hogarth Worldwide, and art director for Oceanic Ad Media Group and Penilican Pictures.

Danny and Vargas have to children, boys; Julian (born 2014) and Sebastian (born 2016). Vargas pregnancies and motherhood have been part of segments for 6 In The Mix.

Vargas was born and brought up in Miami. She attended the Monsignor Pace High School and later went to Florida International University. At Florida International University, she graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Vargas began her journalism career with NBC in 2003. She, however, only joined the NBC 6 news team later on in 2006.

During her time at NBC, Vargas has covered a lot of topics doing both local and national news. She formerly was on the 5 am NBC 6 news.

Vargas now co-anchors the 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. newscasts on Saturdays and the 9:00 a.m. news program on Sundays, along with her regular hosting duties on 6 In The Mix three days a week.

She also broadcasts on “Acceso Total”, an entertainment show in Spanish. The show is broadcast through Telemundo 51, which is NBC’s sister station.

In 2014, Vargas was inducted into Donna Karan’s ” Women Who Inspire” program for her community work. In the program, she joined other celebrities like Demi Moore and Brooke Shields.

For her work, Vargas was honored by the Girls Scouts of Southeast Florida with a community leadership award. She is also on the Board Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida.

In 2018, The Mayor of the City of Miami also awarded her the keys to the city.

Vargas is passionate about LGBTQ rights. She’s a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community and a regular presence at Pride events.

When her son was born, she missed the local Pride Parade. However, in 2015, she hosted the VIP cocktail reception, Soiree by the Miami Beach Pride, and in 2018, was the Miami Beach Gay Pride Ally Grand Marshal.

For her support of the local LGBTQ community, she was honored with the Pink Flamingo Award for Favorite Media Personality and the Ally Award by the Aqua Foundation for Women.
