She was a reporter at WSET ABC 13, the ABC television network affiliate for the Roanoke/Lynchburg, Virginia market. Abdi is also a contributing writer at the Al Jazeera Media Network.
She is also an Associate Producer and previously served as an Assignment Editor at KGTV Channel 10, an ABC-affiliated television station based in San Diego. In 2011, Abdi also founded and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Gazzetta media outlet.
She was born in San Diego and spent some of her formative years in Doha and London. Mona graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in International Relations and Communications. She also knows three languages, including Somali and Spanish.
