Nick Schifrin is an American PBS NewsHour foreign affairs and defense correspondent. He was born on July 10th, 1980 in Los Angeles, California.
He attended Oakwood School from when he was in kindergarten until he was in 12th grade where he graduated in 1998. He attended Columbia University and graduated in 2002 with a bachelors degree of arts in U.S. history. He worked as the managing editor of The Columbia Daily Spectator while he was at Columbia. He even covered the 9/11 terrorist attack.

Nick Schifrin ABC News
He joined ABC News in 2002 working as an overnight desk assistant. He helped launch the daily World News Webcast in 2006 which was the first show designed for web and iTunes. He was the show’s writer and broadcast producer.
The New York Times called the show’s stories raw and personal in their review as they were made for MTV and not ABC. He went to New Delhi, India and served as an ABC reporter. He interviewed the Dalai Lama during the 2008 uprising in Tibet and won a Business Emmy as part of a team covering the worldwide food crisis.
Following the November 2008 Mumbai attacks, he was the first international reporter to arrive on the scene. He then became ABC’s correspondent working in Afghanistan/Pakistan and was one of the first reporters to arrive in Abbottabad, Pakistan after Osama bin Laden’s death back in 2011. He delivered one of the greatest exclusives of the year. The reporting led to ABC winning an Edward R. Murrow Award.

He became Al Jazeera’s first foreign correspondent in November 2013 and he was based in Jerusalem and covered the Middle East. When violence peaked in Kiev, Ukraine, He moved there. This was in early 2014. He stayed in Ukraine for a whole year and his team won a National Headliners Award for their coverage in Ukraine.
He led Al Jazeera’s coverage of the war in Gaza in the summer of 2014. He filled more than 30 stories from Gaza during this time and also had stories about Israel during the war.
He anchored an hour-long special from the City if Gaza. He helped his team win the Overseas Press Club’s David Kaplan Award for their work covering the war from both sides of the border.

He joined PBS NewsHour in May 2018 and was named the foreign affairs and defense correspondent. He created a week-long series, Inside Putin’s Russia, NATO and Ukraine; Fault Lines; Nigeria: Pain and Promise; Inside Kenya; Egypt 5 Years On, at the beginning of late 2015.
The special, Inside Putin’s Russia, won him a 2018 Peabody Award and the 2018 National Press Club’s Edwin M. Hood Award for Democratic correspondence-broadcast.
