Ben Handelman is an American journalist who is an anchor/reporter for FOX6 News. It is his dream to be able to tell the stories of Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin. He joined the FOX6 News team in April 2011. Ben has anchored and reported on every newscast from morning to night. Currently, Ben can be found anchoring weekend evening newscasts and reporting for FOX6 news at nine and ten throughout the week.

He grew up in northwest Connecticut. Ben attended the Quinnipiac University (GO BOBCATS!) from where he graduated.
Ben Handelman Professional career
It is a dream to be able to tell the stories of Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin. Since joining the Fox 6 news team in April of 2011, Ben has traveled across the state and the country as an anchor/reporter for Wisconsin’s largest newsroom.
His great desire to be a professional storyteller helped me land my first job at ABC affiliate WICS in Springfield, Illinois. Ben was promoted and sent to sister station WICD in Champaign, Illinois where he met my wife. At the time, she was a reporter for the competition. He is happy to say Ashley Sears and he found a way to be on the same team when we both moved to Milwaukee to work at FOX6! We enjoy working together a lot better than against each other.
In Milwaukee, Ben has anchored and reported on every newscast from morning to night. Currently, he can be found anchoring weekend evening newscasts and reporting for FOX6 news at nine and ten throughout the week. In his time there he covered some of Wisconsin’s biggest stories from the Sikh Temple and Azana Salon shootings to the unrest in Sherman Park in 2016. Ben walked with Brett Favre during his return to Lambeau Field and helped push cars stuck in the snow during several Wisconsin winters.
He has been sent across the country where he has seen the destruction of an F-5 tornado in Oklahoma and the heartbreak left behind following the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. In Dallas, he saw the resilience of officers who had to head back to work after five of their coworkers were killed, and have stood feet away from Air Force One for two different presidents.

In Milwaukee, you can often find Ashley and him jogging along the lakefront or attending one of the million festivals in our great home city.
Ben is proud to call Milwaukee’s east side my home. His journey here brought him out of the woods of Connecticut, and through some of our country’s largest farm fields in Illinois before finding a home in the brew city!

PLYMOUTH — Whiteout conditions made for a wild pursuit through Sheboygan County. Police and sheriff’s officials chased two men over dangerous, icy roads and through a number of close calls.
According to a criminal complaint, it all started near the Plymouth Walmart back on February 20. Police tried to stop two suspects for reckless driving and bad plates. Instead, they took off — fast.
Officers say at one point, the driver — identified as Kwade Shembeda-Sawaya — drove at a deputy who drew his department-issued firearm and pointed it at the vehicle.
Shembeda-Sawaya kept going, eventually ditching the vehicle at the Menard’s on Vanguard Drive in Sheboygan.
Shembeda-Sawaya’s passenger, 19-year-old Faustino Lemus, was arrested shortly after. Police found 44 cartridges of THC oil and a digital scale on him but didn’t find everything they were looking for.
Shembeda-Sawaya was eventually caught. He’s been charged with two counts of attempting to flee or elude an officer – repeat offender, and one count of misdemeanor bail jumping.
Lemus was charged with one count of possession with intent to deliver THC.
Nicolet schools
BROWN DEER — It was the basketball game that led to apologies, a suspension, and national media attention. Weeks after students from Port Washington High School used a controversial photo to taunt a Nicolet High School player, the teams met again for a game on Thursday, March 7. Brown Deer High School played host as a neutral site for the playoff basketball matchup.
“It’s been such an amazing season,” said Monique Graham, fan.
“I told them last time it takes the A game to do it, and they did it,” said Jim Klimek, grandson plays for Port Washington.
The meeting was quite unexpected after the Pirates from Port pulled off not one but two upsets.
The rematch also getting extra attention for what happened in the stands the last time the teams played.
“When we first saw it we were a little confused. We didn’t know what was going on,” said Graham.
Monique Graham was there as the Port Washington student section held up a photo of Nicolet’s star athlete Jalen Johnson. Some called the pictures racist. Others say it was overblown.
“They didn’t mean anything by it. And I know they didn’t. These kids are all pretty good kids,” said Klimek.
A chance to dream of another upset and a shot at the title.
“We’re hoping for one. It will take a little more than A game though,” said Klimek.
“The players are not only great athletes they are great kids as well,” said Graham.
Most importantly, it’s a night to highlight the accomplishments of the kids from the two schools.
Nicolet ended up winning the game. The student sections where all the controversy was for their last meeting made both their communities proud. There as incredible support for the two teams.
