Dennis Ting Biography | Dennis Ting
Dennis Ting is a Reporter at WHAS11 in Louisville, KY, specializing in general assignment reporting. As a kid, Dennis loved telling stories, writing short tales of intrigue and mystery that his mother (and maybe a few of his friends with nothing better to do) would read.
As he grew older, he realized the real world had just as many interesting stories to tell. Long story short, that’s how he ended up being a journalist.
Dennis joined the WHAS11 team in February 2017 as a reporter. Before coming to Louisville, he spent two years as a reporter and part-time anchor just two hours to the west in Evansville, Indiana.
While there, Dennis covered a wide range of issues, including Indiana’s controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the 2016 election cycle and stories about puppies, because who doesn’t love puppies?
Dennis hails from the East Coast, growing up outside Washington, D.C. in Montgomery County, Maryland. He attended the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland where he honed his reporting chops at Capital News Service, where stories took him to the White House, the State House, and the jailhouse.
He was also the station director at WMUC Sports, the university’s sports radio station. While a student, Dennis also interned at NBC Washington, CNN and was a freelance production assistant at Comcast SportsNet.
Dennis is a big sports fan, rooting for his Maryland Terrapins and all the Dallas professional sports teams (he was born in Arlington, Texas, so it kind of makes sense).
In his free time, he enjoys reading – especially nonfiction and preferably by a fireplace, making music and cooking, which has not gotten anyone sick. So far.
He likes steno pads, good pens, bad puns and, of course, telling stories. He dislikes the feeling when he stubs his toe, forgetting things in his pockets when he does laundry and Duke basketball.
He’s excited to explore Kentuckiana! Feel free to shoot him an email with story ideas, restaurants to check out, funny jokes or anything else. He’s looking forward to hearing from you!

CNN
Cable News Network (CNN) is an American news-based pay television channel owned by AT&T’s WarnerMedia. CNN was founded in 1980 by American media proprietor Ted Turner as a 24-hour cable news channel.
Upon its launch, CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage and was the first all-news television channel in the United States.
While the news channel has numerous affiliates, CNN primarily broadcasts from 30 Hudson Yards in New York City, and studios in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.
Its headquarters at the CNN Center in Atlanta is only used for weekend programming. CNN is sometimes referred to as CNN/U.S. (or CNN Domestic)[5] to distinguish the U.S. channel from its international sister network, CNN International.
As of September 2018, CNN is available to about 90.1 million television households (97.7% of households with cable) in the United States.
Globally, CNN programming airs through CNN International, which can be seen by viewers in over 212 countries and territories.
The Cable News Network was launched at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on June 1, 1980. After an introduction by Ted Turner, the husband and wife team of David Walker and Lois Hart anchored the channel’s first newscast.
Burt Reinhardt, the executive vice president of CNN at its launch, hired most of the channel’s first 200 employees, including the network’s first news anchor, Bernard Shaw.
Since its debut, CNN has expanded its reach to a number of cable and satellite television providers, several websites, and specialized closed-circuit channels (such as CNN Airport).
The company has 42 bureaus (11 domestic, 31 international), more than 900 affiliated local stations (which also receive news and features content via the video newswire service CNN Newsource), and several regional and foreign-language networks around the world.
The channel’s success made a bona-fide mogul of founder Ted Turner and set the stage for conglomerate Time Warner’s eventual acquisition of the Turner Broadcasting System in 1996.
A companion channel, CNN2, was launched on January 1, 1982, and featured a continuous 24-hour cycle of 30-minute news broadcasts.
The channel, which later became known as CNN Headline News and is now known as simply HLN, eventually focused on live news coverage supplemented by personality-based programs during the evening and primetime hours.
