Bryan Mims Biography

Mims is a reporter for WRAL News. He was the 2012 Television News Reporter of the Year. Bryan Mims grew up in Greenville, S.C., where he cut his teeth in journalism as a writer for a weekly newspaper in the suburbs of Greenville.

But broadcasting always had a powerful allure. Mims hero in the industry is the late CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt, a Carolina native himself.

He admired his voice, his writing and his ability to craft a story. From the time Bryan was 15, Mims knew he wanted to do what he did.

He longed to travel America — and the world — in pursuit of news “or just a good, compelling story”. While newspaper reporting was fun in its own right, the marriage of pictures, sound and words proved irresistible, so he pursued a television career.

WRAL anchor and reporter Gina Benitez confirms that she plans to leave the station in early March 2018.

Benitez, who started at WRAL in January, said in an email that she is leaving to pursue other opportunities and hopes to announce future plans soon.

Benitez is a Florida State University graduate and came to WRAL from WOFL Fox 35 in Orlando, where she covered the Pulse nightclub massacre in 2016.

Benitez says on her WRAL page that she was one of the first reporters on the scene that day and that nothing could have prepared her for what she saw there.
