Every now and then I get an assignment that stirs my soul and reminds me how fortunate I am to be able to tell people’s stories. Today was one of those days, thanks to these 2 people. @lydiaemily is a cancer survivor, multiple sclerosis warrior and talented artist who is spreading a message of hope across the county through murals. Alleged gang members in court for the death of a marine

Source; telemundo20.com

Two suspected gang members are being tried for the death of a Camp Pendleton Marine, who was killed in 2016 while on leave in Los Angeles.

Sandra Lopez, the mother of the victim, has attended each court, fulfilling the promise she made to her son, Lance Corporal Carlos Segovia-López while fighting for his life in the hospital.

“One of them was that justice was going to be done,” said Sandra Lopez.

Prosecutors allege that Oscar Aguilar and Esau Ríos are gang members who shot Segovia-López after he confronted them when he suspected they were looking for cars to steal.

“He witnessed crimes and responded,” said Claudia Pérez, the victim’s friend. “Obviously he did not expect this result, that he would lose his life, because nobody deserves that, but he did what he was supposed to do.”

In the initial statements on Tuesday, the defense attorneys argued that Segovia Lopez was put in a precarious position and that Aguilar and Rio were afraid of him.

“I want the truth to come to light and that there be justice for all involved,” said Sandra Aguilar, the defender’s sister who has also attended each court. “I want to make sure he’s being treated fairly.”

She insists that her brother is not guilty of murder.

“The truth is that someone did lose his life and that is very unfortunate, but the right person has to pay for that. It will be for the court to decide if the right person is one of these men. “
