Vanessa Murdock Biography
Vanessa Murdock is an American Emmy Nominated, Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM). She joined the CBS 2 Weather Team in October 2011 as the weekend morning meteorologist and weekday reporter. She is a member of both the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). Vanessa moved to the Big Apple from CBS affiliate, WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia.

Vanessa meteorological adventure started at Penn State University where she earned her Master’s degree in Meteorology. From PSU, she traveled to Central Virginia where she began her career as a Broadcast Meteorologist at WCAV/WVAW/WAHU. For two years she worked as the evening weather anchor for both the local ABC and FOX affiliates in Charlottesville and loved every minute.
Vanessa’s career then brought her to Norfolk, VA where she spent nearly five years forecasting for communities up and down the Mid-Atlantic coastline. She played an integral role in reporting on Hurricane Irene. “Covering Hurricane Irene was a reminder how we need respect the power of nature and cherish life,” she says. “We were only in the early hours of dealing with Irene when we received word that a tree had fallen on a home and a child was unaccounted for. The mother escaped with only minor cuts and bruises, her son was killed. When I think of Irene I will always remember this story and my heart will ache for the mother who lost her son.”

CBS2’s Vanessa took part in Sunday’s race and documented her journey.
Shortly after 10 a.m., Manuela Schär of Switzerland won her second New York City Marathon in a row competing in the women’s wheelchair division.
American Daniel Romanchuk took home the title of NYC Marathon winner in the men’s wheelchair division.
For the fourth time in her running career, Mary Keitany of Kenya won the New York City Marathon in the women’s division.
Last year’s champion, American Shalane Flanagan, finished third. Flanagan has now finished first, second, and third in her three marathon appearances. The American women had a big showing this year with four runners finishing in the Top 10.
Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia was the first runner in the men’s division to cross the finish line Sunday afternoon. Desisa won the 2018 marathon in 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 59 seconds, finishing just two seconds ahead of second-place finisher Shura Kitata.
Around 1 p.m., CBS2’s Vanessa was one of several runners to cross into Manhattan over the Queensboro Bridge. Later on, she ran into another familiar face in the crowd, CBS2’s Andrea Grymes.
