Prior to her tenure at WJZ, she previously worked for NBC2 where she served as a reporter/anchor since joining the station in April 2016. She became Weekend Evening Anchor in June 2018 after two years of reporting in Southwest Florida.
In 2015, her stories have gained one Florida Associated Press Broadcasters award in the Radio II division for “Best Use of Sound”, in 2017 one Florida Associated Press Broadcasters finalist award in the Medium Market division for “Weather Reporting”, in 2019 one Florida Associated Press Broadcasters award in the Medium Market division for “Best Weather Reporting” and one Edward R. Murrow Award in the Small Radio Market for “Best Use of Sound” in 2015.
Mendez is a New England native but moved to Saint Petersburg, Florida, after being approved into a dual-enrollment high school, earning an Associate of Arts in Broadcast Journalism.
