Gordon serves as a reporter/anchor for NBC Dallas Fort Worth and usually appears on weeknights on NBC 5 News at 10 and has reported from the Gulf coast during many hurricanes and was the first Texas reporter to widespread nationally from the scene of the space shuttle Columbia disaster. He was among the first reporters at Fort Hood to cover the 2010 murder.

Gordon has focused on covering federal court cases such as terrorism, white-collar crimes, and the effect of Mexican drug cartels in North Texas. He has widely covered the financial distress at Fort Worth-based American Airlines. While Gordon primarily covers news, he also enjoys occasionally covering sports stories, including division-champion Texas Rangers and the world-champion Dallas Mavericks. He reported from San Francisco during the 2010 World Series. He covered political scandals and did investigative reporting for KTUL-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma before joining NBC5. Gordon started his career at KSNF-TV in Joplin, Missouri, and later worked at KAMR-TV in Amarillo.

Gordon attended the University of Missouri where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Among his professional achievements are a number of news awards, including an Associated Press award for investigative reporting and two Texas Emmy nominations for the best reporter.

Gordon has covered some of the stoor stories in Texas and the region, including the racially motivated dragging death of a black man in Jasper, the tense standoff with the Republic of Texas separatist movement at Fort Davis, to the bonfire falling down at Texas A&M University. 

He reported on the wildfires that destroyed Texas — from Palo Pinto County to Bastrop in 2011. Gordon was on the scene within hours of the bombing of the Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995. He went back for many follow-ups including the execution of Timothy McVeigh. Gordon traveled to Tunisia as part of an exchange program with Arab reporters on September 11, 2001, following the terrorist attacks.
