Julie Fine Career
Fine Co-hosts Lone Star Politics and attended Tulane University where she graduated with a tight group of friends from North Texas she told them she would build her career and join them. After graduating, she went to Washington, D.C., and worked behind the scenes as a production assistant and field producer from WJLA. Fine then decided to pursue reporting, got a job at WJET-TV, and was promoted to education reporter. She was the sole local reporter to accompany a group of students to a national scholastic competition in Anchorage, Alaska.

Later she went to work in her hometown of Buffalo, New York. A lot of her time was utilized covering politics and breaking stories during a major budget crisis. She was sent to cover the resignation of Gov. Eliot Spitzer in the state capital. After auditioning Wolf Blitzer and Tim Russert for a story on well-known Buffalo journalists, she went back to Washington to cover Russert’s funeral.
Later to Pittsburgh, where she won an Emmy covering the firing of legendary Penn State Coach Joe Paterno, she was the lone local reporter live during the uproar that followed. In June 2013 she joined NBC 5 and has been NBC 5’s political reporter. The 2014 Gubernatorial race and the 84th and 85th Texas legislative sessions were covered by her.
Fine hit the road for the Presidential election in 2016. She followed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) through his run for the presidency, from Iowa to Indiana, where he suspended his campaign. She was the first one to interview him after he ended it. She went to Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida throughout the campaign and all over the great state of Texas! When she is not at work it’s all about sports (she is from Buffalo and hope springs eternal), she is at the gym, the movies, or likely talking politics somewhere.
