McSweeney anchors the weekend edition of NBC Bay Area News at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. and reports during the week. He was working at KGO in San Francisco, where he had been a reporter and fill-in anchor since 2007 prior to joining NBC Bay Area. He worked in newsrooms all over the country including KTXL in Sacramento, KSAZ in Phoenix, WPBF in Palm Beach, and WTEN in Albany before joining KGO.
McSweeney also reported live from New York City after the September 11 terrorist attacks and was named “Best Anchor” by the Albany Times Union at WTEN. He also worked for NBC Bay Area as a general assignment reporter from 1987 to 1995. At that time his news reporting and coverage of breaking news honored him with two Edward R. Murrow Awards. He is also a San Francisco inborn, a devoted father, a lifelong Giants, and a 49ers fan. In 1981 he schooled at UC Berkeley and graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
