She started her career in broadcasting in San Francisco before moving on to report and anchor in Fresno. Before joining NBC Bay Area, Garcia was an investigative reporter and anchor in Phoenix, Arizona.
While at phoenix she was honored with The Associated Press Reporter of the Year Award along with multiple Emmy and AP awards for writing and reporting. She was recognized with a Best Daytime Newscast Award in the Bay Area by the Bay Area Women in Radio and Television.
